RETRO FAN COLLECTION

Combining vintage style with modern technology, a retro fan adds a certain uniqueness to a room. So if you're looking for something which won't look out of place next to the record player, your treasured classic guitar and the repurposed shabby chic bookcase, then you're in the right place.

Every fan I saw as a kid was white plastic with a white cage, and although they are perfectly functional it has been great to see vintage style alternatives on the market.

So what makes a fan look"retro"? Well, as you'll see with our findings below, it's usually the colour of the unit, the style of the blades, and the extra fixtures and fittings. No white plastic to  be seen!

The first thing that sticks out about this fan is the wooden case. The air slits down the side make it look like it wouldn't be out of place in a smoky recording studio!

But this tower fan is packed with modern features. It oscillates, it is remote controlled (with buttons on top of the unit too), it has a dust filter, adjustable speed settings and a digital heat display.

At £135.00, it is a little on the pricey side compared to the other tower fans, but we think it's worth it for the unique look.

RUSSELL HOBBS RETRO FANS

Russell Hobbs have created a pair of retro fans in a classic vintage beige (no one really makes appliances in beige anymore, do they?!). Sold individually, these fans are giving us 70's and 80's vibes.

£69.00

Adjustable height, tilting and oscillating. All the things you need in a pedestal fan! It has four metal blades and a circular metal mesh (rather than the more contemporary criss-cross mesh design).

Dimensions    125cm x 45 m x 41 cm (H x W x D)

This retro desk fan is controlled by buttons and a dial, and has 3 speed settings.

Dimensions     46.5cm x 26.5cm x 35.5 cm (H x W x D)

Well, this mini desk fan is adorable. It has a rusted copper coloured metal frame and four aluminium blades. As we can see from the set up in the image, it adds a subtle but cute retro style to a workstation, so you might end up being the envy of your colleagues.

It is USB powered, so you can plug it into your laptop, a USB plug or a power bank. It is super lightweight and easy to use, with just an on/off switch to operate.

Dimensions     15.6 x 15.4 x 9.2 cm

Weight             358g

£69.99

We love the copper tone of this fan's metal structure, and since it stands on the floor it is less imposing on a room. We picture it sat between a pair of those low armchairs which seem to have been in fashion from the 60s to the 80s!

Subtle in design but not in strength, it boasts 3 speed settings and a high speed motor for a powerful breeze, and a subtle handle at the back makes it extra portable. It doesn't oscillate as it is a floor fan, but it can be tilted to direct the breeze wherever you need it.

Made from 70% metal and 30% wood, this fan looks like it is straight out of an old Hollywood film studio! Just add a spotlight and you'll be ready to go!

The height can be adjusted from 110cm to 130cm, and there are three speed settings. The metal fan drum is easily adjustable too, so you can direct the airflow wherever you need. It also comes with a 1 year guarantee.
